Bahamas imposes steep retroactive navigation fees on visiting aircraft

The Bahamas is retroactively billing operators of multi-engine piston aircraft, turboprops, and jets for navigation fees dating back to May 2021. Even pilots who paid the original rates are receiving invoices for the difference, representing hikes of up to 700 percent. Single-engine private flights remain exempt from the new charges. This matters to the aviation community because outstanding navigation debt stays attached to the airframe, meaning a newly purchased used aircraft could be detained by Bahamian officials due to a previous owner's unpaid balance.
